Reflections and Renewal: A Year in Review
Dear Friends,
As the year draws to a close, I know I’m supposed to write you a sunny, cheery wrap-up email. But instead, I want to share something real and honest with you: this year has been tough.
The real estate market faced its lowest inventory and sales since 1995, the NAR Settlement shook consumer confidence in realtors, interest rates were unpredictable, and San Francisco endured waves of layoffs. Every corner of my business felt each of these impacts, and I found myself battling fatigue and burnout. But here’s the thing—moments like these often serve as catalysts for reflection and, ultimately, transformation.
In my family, when frustrations bubble over, the second question we always ask is: “What are you grateful for?” That simple question has been my anchor from year to year.
Despite the challenges, I’m deeply grateful for my incredible clients—those resilient, warm-hearted souls who entrusted me to guide them through some of life’s biggest financial decisions, even amidst uncertainty. I’m grateful that my business grew as much as it did by way of referrals coming from friends, clients, and colleagues who trusted me to take care of the people they like and care for themselves. I’m grateful for my husband, Matt, who encourages me to step beyond my comfort zone while supporting me every step of the way. I’m grateful for my wonderfully wild children, who hold up an honest mirror to my own shortcomings with humor and love. And I’m grateful for my friends, family and colleagues who show up for me in all of life’s ups and downs.
Then there’s accountability. I kept a low profile this year. You may have noticed the lack of outreach, like newsletters and touch-points. While many of you have kindly complimented my Social Media posts, I found myself scrolling too often, which drained me of my energy and left me feeling more disconnected than ever. One pivotal moment came when a friend texted me as I was in the middle of a mindless scroll. I paused, called her instead, and we ended up laughing about how the very platforms designed to connect us often create isolation. That day, we both decided to delete the apps from our phones - and I haven’t looked back since I stepped away from Social Media for the moment.
As I reflect, I’m also taking responsibility for what’s next. During a recent road trip, Matt and I listened to "Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon's Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart" by Dr. James Doty, a powerful autobiographical reminder of how transformation begins with a connected, open heart and a mindset of flow rather than fear. I realized that, somewhere along the way, I had let fear take the wheel.
Stepping into this next chapter, I am already sensing a quiet transformation taking shape. It’s not without its challenges, but there’s an energy that comes from embracing change and seeing what unfolds. I’m leaning into “Ruth’s magic tricks,” as Dr. Doty references - a simple, intentional practice to connect more deeply with myself and the people around me. It’s a reminder that even small shifts can make a big difference.
This is also a time for rediscovery - pushing myself to try new things, even when it feels uncomfortable or uncertain. There’s something invigorating about exploring uncharted territory and letting myself be surprised by what I find.
Most importantly, I’m looking forward to sharing this journey with you. It’s not about having all the answers or knowing exactly where this path will lead. It’s about showing up, learning as we go, and finding meaning in the process - together. Thank you for being part of my life, for your trust, your kindness, and your connection. Here’s to a new year filled with reflection, renewal, and gratitude.
With love and warmth,
Brandi
