Love, Lice, and Laundry

"Love doesn’t make the world go ’round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile." — Franklin P. Jones

I’m going to let you in on something… I had ChatGPT help me write up this beautiful post about love and all its forms for this month’s blog post. I had planned to send it out on the Thursday right before Valentine’s Day with another post about where to buy the best chocolates in town. And then everything exploded. Three out of four of us in my family were infected with lice (🤮), I lost all of that Thursday to lice treatment for the enitre family, the piles of laundry suddenly felt insurmountable, and I found myself in a spiral of mid-life hormones wreaking havoc on my sanity.

So, let’s talk about love! I had 35 years of life experience - studying love in all its forms - before fate (and a well-meaning friend) set me up on a blind date with Matt. Fast forward ten years, and I’m living the relationship of my dreams - though let’s be real, no love story is without its challenges. Add in two amazing (and occasionally exhausting) kiddos who push me to grow every day, and I’ve learned a thing or two about love. But here’s the thing, what I once thought love was and what I know now, are two very different things.

I’ve learned that love isn’t just found in grand gestures or epic love stories - it’s in the little things that make life feel warm and meaningful. Love is in the details and it is about building something real, nurturing it during the best and worst of times, watching it grow into something you could have never imagined.

At its heart, love is an investment, the time, energy, and effort we pour into the things that matter most. It’s in the relationships we nurture, the risks we take for our dreams, and the kindness we spread in our daily lives. Love isn’t just about what we receive; it’s about what we give, how we support others, and how we make the world around us a little brighter. So whether you celebrated the month of love with a special someone, a group of friends, or treating yourself to something sweet (because self-love counts, too!), let’s all take a moment to appreciate all the ways love shows up in our lives. Here’s to a year filled with joy, connection, and plenty of love - today and every day.
