Well, I'm thrilled to share that 2021 ended on a high note for me, my business and my family! With $24M of real estate sold last year, I had my best year yet since I moved to San Francisco over 6 years ago! These yummy kiddos managed to stay healthy (aside from your average cold every other week!), and Matt and I continued to enjoy life in the Mission!
To be honest, I was ready for this year to start with a bang! I started doing more yoga over the holiday break, meditated, and was super excited to get back to my computer on Tuesday morning.
And then we got the news on Tuesday afternoon that our kids' daycare was closing for the week due to COVID surges, AND Indy's classroom was potentially going to be closed for two weeks because of a close contact COVID exposure. And just like that, my plan to get off to a FOCUSED start evaporated into thin air.
But, isn't this how life works!
I've been reading a book titled "Outwitting the Devil" by Napoleon Hill that he considered so controversial for its time, that it wasn't published until more than 40 years after his death. It's a must read for those personal development fanatics out there like myself.
Anyway, on the plane ride home on Monday, I was reading a passage in Hill's book about how overcoming adversity is one of the keys to overcoming the "devil" (aka fear). Let me first preface, I know there are others who face much more adversity than me. But in the face of this new obstacle and my year starting off-track so abruptly, I couldn't help but to recall how this is also a moment that can define this year - positively or negatively.
And in good old fashioned Brandi Mayo style, I'm choosing the positive with a big F-You to Omicron that is throwing all sorts of obstacles in everyone's ways!
We are almost always given road blocks in life, and we have a choice as to how we approach them. I'm choosing to see this one as a speed bump.
Last year, Matt and I figured out pretty quickly that we needed to ask better questions of ourselves to help us navigate the coming speed bumps in our year ahead. So, we started 2021 asking ourselves, "How can we make everything fun and easy?" We applied that question to everything we did in our family life, relationships, child rearing and our businesses. Not only did it help, it became an automatic habit every time a challenge rose to the surface.
With that foundation set, we asked ourselves again how we can ask better questions of ourselves to help us achieve our goals and overcome speed bumps in 2022. Honestly, our relationships are everything to us. They help us grow as human beings, provide joy and inspiration to us. So this year we are asking ourselves, "How can we provide even more joy and pleasure in everything we do?" I can only imagine how road blocks are magically transformed into speed bumps when this question is applied!
I am 100% certain I couldn't have had as successful a 2021 as I had without all of you - my amazing clients, friends, family, husband, AND daycare. All of you have provided so much joy, pleasure and inspiration to me in one way or another, and so you can expect more of the same from me as I ask myself how I can provide more joy and pleasure to you, especially as road blocks appear out of nowhere!
So, here's to choosing the speed bumps in life this year that provide more joy and pleasure!
An
d, may we all achieve our pursuits, health, love, happiness, and prosperity!
XOXO,
Brandi
